Medical Insurance and Coding

Diploma Program: Baton Rouge, Cleveland, Cleveland West, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Houston, Houston Southeast, North Houston, Lafayette, Largo, Little Rock, Memphis, Mobile, Nashville, Shreveport, Tampa

The Medical Insurance and Coding Program provides training in the skills and knowledge that can help you qualify for entry-level positions in private physician offices, clinics, hospital clerical departments, or other medical facilities.

As a medical coder, you typically maintain records of the observations, medical or surgical procedures, and treatment outcomes of patients. These records may include information patients provide about their symptoms and medical histories, results of examinations, reports of X-rays and laboratory tests, diagnoses, and treatment plans. Medical coders prepare, organize, and evaluate these records for completeness and accuracy, and some may specialize in coding patients' medical information specifically for billing or insurance purposes.

The duties of a medical coder vary with the size of the facility where they work. For example, in some medical facilities, coders might specialize in just one aspect of health information, while in other situations they might have a variety of duties.

The Medical Insurance and Coding Program can be completed in as little as eight or nine months. When you complete the Medical Insurance and Coding Program, you will be awarded a diploma and should have the basic skills and knowledge to start your career as a medical coder. Contact your local campus for more details.
